Vans The Omega, Adelaide

Vans has always loved letters, especially the more artistic and ancient scripts like Egyptian hieroglyphics, Sanskrit of the Vedas, Mayan icons, ancient Hebrew and the beautiful movement of Arabic calligraphy. Vans first painted with aerosols back in 1990, but had been using an airbrush along with all kinds of markers and pastels to create colourful letterforms years earlier.
Graffiti has impacted Van’s consciousness in what he considers a huge and penetrating event. As a child he looked up to the cleanest and most technical painters including Kab 101, Masica 126, Manet, Rank, Merda, Duel, Paris, Jors, Shem and Puzle. All these guys drove Vans to paint the very best that he could while shaping what he considered fundamental to his art.
Shem, Melbourne

Shem is a renowned street artist and music producer, known for his work with popular Australian breaks act Nubreed and record labels Obese and Beathedz. Shem’s graffiti styles were influenced by New York crews and local Melbourne artists such as Merda and Dskiz.
Nowadays Shem is trying to simplify his style by adding more funk and movement to his works. He likes to place emphasis on the letters ensuring that they are clean with form and purpose. Regularly painting with other high calibre artists has helped his style move forward since the 1980s. Shem is active in the community, promoting the tie between art, music and urban culture.
Teazer, Sydney

Teazer’s name developed from when he was a kid. TZR were the only letters he could write, so when he started out in 1989 he started using Teazer as his tag name. He was influenced by the Bondi graffiti scene and subway art. For Teazer, graffiti was seen as rebellious but it saved him from a life of crime and drugs.
He now believes that kids need a forum, such as street art workshops, to express themselves legally rather than resorting to acts of vandalism. These days, Teazer has transferred his graffiti skills from the streets to the canvas. People are looking for art that has a street edge but can still look at home in a gallery.
Meks, Brisbane

As a young boy growing up in the suburbs (originally Sydney), Meks was awakened to the sleeping beast that was graffiti in the early 1980’s. Subjected to a world of colour and creation, using an unusual medium, Meks began to draw faces of cartoon characters with letters, eventually spraying onto surfaces at an early age. Today, Meks continues to practice the art of graffiti locally and abroad and has lead to many accomplishments throughout his career.
